New Reader?

Are you a New Reader? Because if you are you might be a little confused by Jayden and Crusader.

I suggest you start at the beginning of the comic and work forward.

The ‘Classic’ Stage of J&C currently has some frankly crazy file sizes. This may cause problem on monitors running at 1024×726 or lower. I am currently in the process of remastering, although not re-drawing, the classic pages, so they are all 800 pixels across. Please bare with me on that.

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the art quality throughout much of the archive. Jayden and Crusader was my chief learning tool as I was, and still am, learning to draw. For this reason the style of colouring, drawing, shading etc change as I experiment, and the character models fluctuate through the archive.

One thing you may ask is “Why the hell is all this crap still in here?” and its a fair question. Jayden and Crusader tries to be humourous in its own right each and every time, but there are times when I will make a call back to a line, or an event in the archive which I think you need to have read to get the joke. Plus some of them are pretty funny. Just shoddily drawn.

For queries about characters, please check the cast page or the FAQ page, or email me, so I can add more questions to the FAQ.

Comics 1-13: The Classic Age
As you may know from the ‘about’ page, Jayden and Crusader started life as a doodle comic on my deviant art web page. J&C started life with little aim or purpose, merely to make people laugh. This was the ‘classic’ stage of Jayden and Crusader, which ended life with the arrival of Ozimaar. Nowadays, I try to retain this style of comedy while still telling a story. Its a fine line, but I think I can stick with it.

Comics 14-19 and 26-28: The Plot Stage
After Ozimaar’s arrival was the ‘plot’ stage. During this stage of the comics life, I think I kinda killed the comedy. Or stole jokes to make it work. Or both at once. I don’t like it anymore, to be honest and I didn’t like it at the time, which is why it led quickly to…

The Random Stage: 29-46
During this period of the comic I had no real direction, I focussed on Smic a lot, got bored, re-invented the comic, got bored again and was silent for a month. That about covers it.

The New J&C Stage: 46-present
Jayden and Crusader, reborn. Characters were redesigned, backgrounds drawn, the whole comic given a new lease of life. Age old ideas resurfaced and there was a massive draw to getting back the ‘classic’ style of comic. These last few pages, since May, are my favourite so far, and I hope they will be some of your favourites too.
