Second Anniversary July 4th Celebration
Please Vote for Jayden and Crusader (Help us get back into the top 200!)
Please comment and rate the page (especially if you want to rate low, if I don’t know why I can’t improve).
This page is soooooo late, sorry. This page took forever. It’s about twice the length of an ordinary page with that big high quality panel at the end. And then Kirrus had to take our server down for upgrades, delaying it for another two hours.
I know have a twitter feed. You can follow if you like, I often talk about J&C and the like.
Sorry people
Two years ago a little idea entered my head involving the character Crusader and the character Jayden who were, in no uncertain terms, a loose interpretation of me and a female friend, I had no idea that it would spawn the Jayden and Crusader comic that now dominates 80% of my waking thoughts.
2 years!
Two bloody years, 140 pages, over 838 panels!
Incredible, and I just keep getting better and better. This years celebration is so much better than last years. Hopefully Jayden and Crusader will continue for another two years, and another two, until I either lose my sight, fingers or ability to think.
That said, my colour vision has gone completely skewy… it’s worse than every. Hey ho.
TWO YEARS! WHOOT!
Oh, and Happy July 4th americans. Your great great great great great grandfather really kicked my great great great great great grandfather’s arse.
Seriously, he was a lieutenant, you whoop’d him good.
In addition: Those are big arse fireworks. Even Crusader’s ‘small’ one is about 3 times the size of the ‘big’ ones I see on sale here in the UK. I guess it varies from place to place, but still. I really do enjoy this page, I think it is wonderful.
I am well aware I got the design of Uncle Sam slightly wrong, I’ve given him a beard with a long goatee part, strictly speaking he should only have had the goatee. Ah well, he’s not the anthroporphisation of my country. Feel free to get John Bull wrong everyone, I don’t mind, fair’s fair.
Hmm, I wonder if Jayden and Crusader are over 21 yet… I suppose if not Crusader is breaking US law there… but screw that! US drinking laws are stupid! 18 to buy it and over 5 to drink it in one’s home is a sensible limit, some might even say conservative considering European standards.
I actually had another 4 or so panels that I could have put in, but I they weren’t that funny, so I cut them. Cut down the time it took… but it does mean Jayden doesn’t show up before the final panel.
I think for year 3, when hopefully I am another 60+ comics ahead I think I will do a run down of J&C’s greatest moments, but there aren’t enough yet, at only 140 pages.
I think in panel 4 Smic’s line is ambiguous. To my mind Smic is not one-upping Third, he is merely introducing his own contraption. But whatever, either interpretation works.
One last thought (of a long list of, in my mind, ‘last thoughts’): I love the contrast of the two sets of character models, this year’s vs last years. I think this years is a lot more consistent, professional and perhaps less anime-esque and more cartoony for good or ill.
Personally I think it’s for the best (I also gave up on having Crusader’s hair match the length of my hair, and it shrunk back to merely to male long).

Two years already? It doesn’t seem that long, even though I’ve been following along since J&C’s humble beginnings. Also, I can’t help but wonder: why does Smic have Uncle Sam’s hat in the polaroid? For some reason that’s giving me ideas of Smic turning into Uncle Sam via a werewolf-esque transformation.
At any rate, cheers to a fun anniversary page and to the comic. May J&C see many more years to come.

Ahaa! Smic should totally dress up as Uncle Sam or something x)
That’s a point – have you not worked out their ages?
Do they have birthdays…? (I forget if they’ve had them or not aha)
But yey for being such epic inspiration
Ahaaa

I think Jayden and Crusader are about 20, Smic is ageless, Hannah must be getting on for 22 by now, Kat I’ve never thought about age wise, probably about 21, considering I wrote their ages last year and just made up some ages.
Third is nearly 2 years old now, though I’ve always imagines he *looks* 25ish.

Yep, the characters live and breathe now. Last year they were still stiff and unconvincing.
