Page 100!
Alright, Hands up, who saw this twist coming? Vote in this poll here!
Vote For Jayden and Crusader New Incentive!
It’s the 100th page folks! That’s right, the big one double oh, the full one hundredth. That’s 400-500 hours work in this archive alone. “But Adrian! You perfect example of mathematical inexactitude!” I hear you cry, if you know my name. “I’ve gone through the entire archive and I can only find 90 pages!” And I’d say, well done, you are quite correct. You see, the Jayden and Crusader official numbering system counts 10 or so filler pages which existed on the Drunk Duck website, but were removed when I moved to this site. So this is really only the 90th page that you can see. But did you know there are 20 pages sitting on my hard drive waiting to be finished and uploaded to this site? I bet you didn’t. They will fill the hole left by the Ozimaar arc (they are infact, the ozimaar arc) and will make this page the 110th page of the archive. So you tell me, which is better? To celebrate the 100th page now, or to celebrate it in 10 pages time only to have it become the 120th page when I upload the Ozimaar pages? You know which one I chose.
On the subject of the Ozimaar arc, 2 pages have been coloured, 7 more have been inked and the remainder have been sketched. I am waiting for an artist to do 5 more though. If you want to help me, that’d be awfully kind.
Anyway…. This is the 100th page! Yahoo! Party! The comic has gone into triple figures! I tell you now; this comic has become a huge part of my life. Sure, I only spend 4-5 hours a week on it, but I spend most of my spare time thinking about it, doodling character sketches or coming up with new ideas. After 100 pages, even including all my all my long absences, the comic has still updated an average of 1.4 times a week, or three times a fortnight since July 2007. That’s reasonably good going, as J&C has big updates compared to some other comics. I have about 100 readers now, and that’s really great. It’s so great to watch the J&C stats page fluctuate with all you people reading. Sure, it’d be nice to have more, and I don’t have as many readers as I know some web comic artists do, but each and every one of you who reads my comic is important, and I’m glad to provide you with entertainment. It’s been great to have you reading these last year and a half. Don’t worry though, I may be 100 pages in now, but the comic won’t let up! I have ideas coming out of my ideas. The ideas on the digital notepad I have for J&C alone could keep me going another three months, not to mention the long term plans I have for the characters and the other crazy ideas which we all know I’m going to get in the next few months. It’s going to be a fun ride.
And now onto the 100th page itself.
Since September I knew I wanted to make the 100th page something special, mainly that’s because I realised I was so close to it. Hence I moved forward this little subplot/mini-arc forwards to now. I have however, been scared to actually do this page. Scared because I know I am not good at writing relationships. I know this from reading my own writing and reading the views of other people. Hell, I bet half you readers haven’t really realised that Smic and Hannah are together, have you? It’s not you’re fault; I’m just not all that good at writing relationship stuff. So why this page? Why this entire subplot? Well, mainly because I think it opens up a very wide spectrum of humour for me to move into, allowing me to keep the comic fresh besides relying on the punch line “lol Third is angry.” or “Lol, Smic is crazy.” That said, I am not going to simply move into the territory of penis jokes and innuendo. Jayden and Crusader was recently described as Questionable Content without the Questionable Content. And I am going to keep it that way. I’m not good at innuendo anyway. It’d come out all weird and confusing. Although I would slightly alter the reader’s description of J&C, I’d call it Questionable Content without the Questionable Content and a whole bucket of extra crazy.
Artistically I am not especially happy with this page. It’s not bad, it’s par the course for J&C really, but as I try and improve with each and every page it’s disappointing the 100th page could not be something magically wonderful in terms of art. Also, Kat is getting really tiny, I should probably alter that. It’s difficult sometimes; the defining characteristics of a character get exaggerated over time, most noticeably the hair of the various characters, and Third’s massive height. Over time it becomes more noticeable and I curtail it, but I don’t want to have to try to fix this page. It’s too late in the day.
Also, kinda mini-spoilers for Quantum of Solace, but not massive ones. Predicting that a building will blow up in a James Bond film is kinda like predicting that in a war someone will die.
And finally: This is the 100th page people! Let’s hear you comment! Let me know what you think! Let me hear your love or hatred! Do you think this was a good idea? A bad idea? Want to rant about chickens? Go ahead, comment!

I didn’t see that coming at all and I’m pretty interested in seeing where you’re going with it (assuming you know yourself, if you’re anything like me you wouldn’t have a clue).
I agree with you on the art of this page, it’s pretty good but not fantastic. A few small things are that I did actually notice Kat was looking quite small and in the 4th and 6th panels how she’s kneeling on the seat looks a little odd. Other than that the characters are drawn very well.
The background isn’t all that interesting, although as it’s in a cinema I don’t think there’s much you could do.
If you’re really not happy with it, seeing as it’s your 100th, you could always redraw it. I think it’s fine though.
